It Took Years to Find Work That Makes Me Happy

by Lessie Lopez .

I finally feel like I found a place to be happy and satisfied when it comes to my job each day. My siblings always knew what they wanted to do with their lives when we were young, but I never did. I now work at a medical marijuana dispensary and love my job when I come into work each day. I run the place with my business partner. Today, I spent my time learning which type of electronic filling machines would be best for what we need in order to put together products more quickly. I find learning everything I can about the business so interesting. The best part of the work is meeting the customers who come in to buy the products we sell. I get to know many of them, and I would even say that some of them have become friends.

I mostly worked menial jobs for the first 30 years of my life. I just couldn’t figure out what it was that I wanted to do on a permanent basis, and it frustrated me to some extent. So, I often jumped from job to job after growing bored of many of them after just a year or two at each place. It has always bothered my parents that I did that often. They have never been able to figure out why I couldn’t make up my mind and stay put somewhere. Frankly, I couldn’t figure out why I did that either. If I could have found something earlier that made me happy enough to stay longer at any one company, I would have welcomed that.

I don’t have the urge to watch the clock all day anymore. I find my work interesting, and I love that I work at a company that makes a difference. Being one of the managing owners of the business has helped, too. I have a say in what happens, rather than being told what to do by someone else all the time. Our customers love what we offer, and they know that we work hard to make sure that everything is high quality.
