We have a giant maple tree in our front yard. Its shade causes moss to grow on the roof on the northern side of the house. The southern side gets plenty of sunshine and looks brand new. We called a company that does roof cleaning for Bellevue to come out and see if they could get rid of all traces of the moss without us needing to replace any shingles. Our shingles are made of cedar, and we did not know what it would take to get them cleaned or if it was even possible to do.
After we got the estimate, we could not understand how they would actually be able to get the shingles clean. They used a pressure washer wand, but they used it in a very precise way so as to not let any water backflow up under the edges of the shingles and into the house. Now the front, the northern side of the roof, looks as new as the back. They cleaned the southern side of the roof too. They inspected everything before they got started. This is how you prevent any leaks from getting into your house.
The crew worked quickly. There was one man on the roof at a time. He wore rubber boots and moved along while being supported with a rope. I would not have the bravery to be able to do that job. He was tied into a rope while standing on a very slippery roof that was covered in moss due to the shade provided by the maple tree. He cleaned the inside of the gutters and their faces too. Now the house looks so much more newer and inviting outside. It sure has increased the curb appeal. Our roof is not even that old and it was almost fully covered in green moss.
